PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for converting cellulosic materials to soluble sugars, and methods for increasing the yield of glucose and the yield of cellobiose from enzymatic saccharification of cellulosic material.SOLUTION: A method for converting cellulosic materials to glucose comprising the steps of: providing a combination of cellulase and a cellulosic material comprising 1-30% by weight of cellulase; incubating the combination of cellulosic material and cellulase at about 38-100°C, at around pH4-9 for 0.1-96 hours to convert 20% or more of the cellulosic material into soluble sugars by hydrolysis, where the soluble sugars comprise glucose and cellobiose, and the fraction of glucose relative to the soluble sugars is 0.75 or more. In certain embodiments, the cellulase comprises a whole cellulase and the whole cellulase is an expressed recombinant beta-glucosidase.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
