The invention relates to a method of applying a catalyst, such as TiO2, to glass beads (10) used in a photocatalytic water purification process. The method envisages to subject the surface of the beads (10) to a mechanical rubbing process in order to increase the roughness thereof. Such application provides a coating having a density of TiO2 greater than can normally be attained. The invention also relates to a coated bead-shaped support and to a photocatalytic water treatment process.
