The present invention is an image sensor that can automatically adjust exposure time. A light receiving element 10 comprises: a first-type semiconductor layer 11 to which a first power-source potential is imparted; a second-type semiconductor layer 12 that is formed on the semiconductor layer 11 and that receives light in a portion that connects with the semiconductor layer 11; first-type regions 122, 124 that are formed in the upper part of the semiconductor layer 12 so as to have an interval therebetween; an electrode 15 that is disposed on the region 122 and to which a second power-source potential different from the first power-source potential is imparted; an electrode 16 that is disposed on the region 124; an insulation layer 13 that is formed on the semiconductor layer 12 and between the regions 122, 124; and a gate electrode 14 that is formed on the insulation layer 13 and to which a gate voltage is imparted. A current reading unit detects the current flowing from the region 122 to the region 124 as a pixel signal which reflects the quantity of light received by the light receiving element 10. |
