A heat exchanger such as an economiser comprises a bank of externally finned tubes 1 arranged in superimposed rows with the edges of the fins 2 of neighbouring tubes in line contact, individual fins being of rectilinear outline and having at least some of the corners cut-off to provide spaces 4 between adjoining fins for baffles 5 which extend through the spaces 4 and direct the external fluid over the tubes. The baffle members 5 may serve also as tube supports. The fins 2 may be integral with the tubes 1 (as shown), or finned sleeves may be fitted over the tubes. |
