PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To image decoding method and device capable of efficiently decoding images.SOLUTION: An image decoding method determines a display frame rate, sets a picture of a hierarchical layer corresponding to the determined display frame rate, (i) prohibits only uppermost layer pictures belonging to the highest hierarchical layer out of decoding target pictures to refer to pictures which belong to a second highest hierarchical layer and located subsequently to the uppermost layer pictures in display order, alternately decodes lower layer pictures belonging to plural lower layers out of the uppermost layer out of the decoding target pictures, and (ii) decodes, at regular intervals, all the lower layer pictures at a display rate determined while waiting for each decoding time represented by time information. The time information represents that the decoding time of all pictures belonging to a picture group is before the decoding time of all pictures belonging to a rear picture group subsequent to a rear I picture which is located subsequently to an I picture in display order.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 10A |
