One or more embodiments described herein include methods and systems for remitting funds via a social networking system. More specifically, systems and methods described herein provide users the ability to remit funds to co-users utilizing social network profiles and notifications. Additionally, systems and methods described herein determine one or more risk levels for a remittance request based on a variety of social network factors.

1. A method comprising:
receiving a request, at one or more servers from a sender, to electronically remit funds to a recipient, wherein the sender and the recipient are associated via a social network; determining, by the one or more servers, that remittance information is needed from the recipient to electronically remit the funds to the recipient; saving, by the one or more servers, one or more transaction details related to the request to electronically remit funds to the recipient; sending, by the one or more servers, a remittance information request to the recipient; receiving, at the one or more servers, the requested remittance information from the recipient; and in response to receiving the requested remittance information from the recipient, continuing, by the one or more servers, with the received request to electronically remit funds to the recipient using the saved one or more transaction details and the received remittance information.
