The present invention relates to a method and device for transmitting and receiving system information for a machine type communication (MTC) terminal. More particularly, the present invention relates to a method for transmitting system information for an MTC terminal in order to support a low complexity UE category/type for an operation of the MTC terminal. In particular, the present invention proposes a method by which a machine type communication terminal receives system information, comprising the steps of: receiving a master information block (MIB) and a system information block 1 (SIB1); verifying scheduling information included in the master information block or system information block 1; and repetitively receiving one or more system information blocks, except the system information block 1, based on the scheduling information.
