This nitrogen oxide storage catalyst (1) is provided with: photocatalyst particles (2); and a supported substance (3) which is supported on the surfaces of the photocatalyst particles (2), and which includes an alkali metal compound and/or an alkaline earth metal compound. The alkali metal compound includes Na and/or K. The alkaline earth metal compound includes at least one element selected from the group consisting of Ca, Sr, and Ba. As a result, the nitrogen oxide storage catalyst (1) is capable of exhibiting excellent storage performance with respect to exhaust gas having a high NOx concentration and a high flow speed.
