PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for establishing a trustworthy local time on the basis of trusted computing methods.SOLUTION: This concept is scaling because the concept may be graded by frequency and accuracy with which a reliable external TA (time source) is available for correction and/or reset, and by how trustworthy this external information source is in a commercial scenario. The techniques also take into account that the number of different paths and the number of hops between a device (P) and the trustworthy external TA (time source) may vary. A local clock related value which is protected by a TPM (trusted platform module) is securely bound to an external clock. A system of accuracy statements (AS) is added to introduce time references to audit data provided by other potentially cheaper information sources than the time source providing an initial time.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
