A surface treatment method for treating a surface formed of an inorganic material by using a polymer is provided. The polymer contains a repeating unit (A) having a cationic group with a particular structure in a side chain thereof and a repeating unit (B) having a group of a particular structure in a side chain thereof. Also provided are a tool and a device having a modified surface, and a method for producing the tool and the device.

1. A method for treating a surface formed of an inorganic material, the method comprising:
employing a polymer in the method, wherein the polymer comprises a repeating unit (A) and a repeating unit (B), the repeating unit (A) comprises a cationic group represented by Formula (1) in a side chain thereof where R1 and R2 each independently represents an organic group comprising 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and the repeating unit (B) comprises a group represented by Formula (2) in a side chain thereof where R3 represents an alkanediyl group comprising 2 to 8 carbon atoms, R4 represents a hydrogen atom or an organic group comprising 1 to 40 carbon atoms, and n has an average value of 1 or more.
