The disclosed joining system is an inner sleeve 3 that is inserted into an outer extruded aluminium light housing 1 and 2 providing complete vertical shielding of escaping light over the sidewalls of a lighting housing when two or more pieces are joined on site. Light is free to escape from the diffuser 4 and is shielded from unintentional escape from any other location at said join. The gear tray 5 is located by means of specific detail that is extruded into the outer sleeve 3 and is removable through the removal of the diffuser 4 post installation. The two sections of sleeve 3 are also used as an alignment device that maintains said alignment of connected housings.
