The present invention is generally directed to a drug delivery device for selecting and dispensing a number of user variable doses of a medicament and to a housing for such a device. The housing for a drug delivery device comprises an outer housing (10), a housing insert (150), which is rotationally constrained to the outer housing (10) and guided axially movable relative to the outer housing (10), and a cartridge holder (20), which is attachable to the distal end of the outer housing (10) by at least one groove (21) and at least one lug (15). The cartridge holder (20) comprises proximally facing ramps (22) and the housing insert (150) comprises corresponding distally facing ramps (152). The groove (21) comprises a first sloped portion (24) inclined such that the cartridge holder (20) is moved proximally relative to the outer housing (10) upon a rotational attaching movement and a second sloped portion (26) inclined such that the cartridge holder (20) is moved distally relative to the outer housing (10) upon a rotational attaching movement. The proximally facing ramps (22) and the distally facing ramps (152) engage at least when the lug (15) is in the second sloped portion (26) of the groove (21) and are inclined such that the housing insert (150) is moved proximally relative to the outer housing (10) and the cartridge holder (20) upon an attaching movement of the cartridge holder (20).
