[Also in Groups XXII and XXV] A terminal element 10 comprising a head flange 12 and tubular coaxial barrel portions 14, 16 of different diameter is mounted in an aperture in a printed circuit wiring board W by inserting the barrel portions through the aperture until flange 12 abuts one side of the board, and then expanding the shoulder between the barrel portions by means of a die 24, whilst supporting flange 12 on an anvil 22, to form a flange 28 engaging the other side of the board. Barrel portion 16 receives the bared end of a wire and portion 14 the insulation thereof, the - wire being bent over portion 16 and/or portion 16 crimped thereon prior to soldering. Fig. 4 shows an alternative method of mounting the terminal wherein the upper die 25 has cutting edges 34 which cut out a pair of prongs 40 from barrel portion 14, said prongs then being curled by surfaces 36 into gripping engagement with the surface of board W. |
