<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting harmful ions such as arsenic in water by a simple operation at a site requiring safe water and letting a user know the contamination. <P>SOLUTION: After a water receiving container 2 is filled with test object solution, a pressing rod 10 is pushed therein from the outside to break a preparation container diaphragm 4. A sensor material 5 and the test object solution that are coloration selective adsorbents are uniformized by slightly shaking a whole detecting tube and, when a heavy metal ion subject to the detection is detected, it shows a color reaction. For viewing the color tone change with the reaction, a detector 1 and the water receiving container may be transparent or have a structure through which a necessary portion is visible.
