[Class 75 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] In lamp for use in detecting inflammable or other dangerous gases in mines &c., in which an oil lamp is pivoted to an electric battery lamp, as described in the parent Specification, a switch is manually operable from the exterior of the oil lamp by means of a key 8 to close a circuit through the igniting filament 17 of the oil lamp. As shown, the triangular end 7 of the key is adapted to be inserted through a similarly-shaped opening 6 in a plate 4, secured in the oil lamp casing 1, and then turned until it can be brought into alignment with, and engaged in a similarly-shaped recess 19 in a member 12, which can then be turned by the key against the action of a spring 20 so that a cam 13 thereon moves the spring- pressed contact arm 14 into contact with the contact 15. Alternatively, the plate 4, or a portion of the plate formed with the aperture 6, is adapted to be moved by the key to bring the apertures 6, 19 into register. The filament 17 is mounted on an insulating member 24 provided with contact pins 23 detachably engaging contact sockets 22 in an insulating block 21 carrying the switch contacts 14, 15. One end of the filament is connected with the contact 16 and the other end with the battery, the member 12 being earthed. |
