<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active type object detection device capable of easily detecting and controlling a prescribed area electrically and individually among a plurality of detection areas at a low cost in a simple constitution. <P>SOLUTION: A light-projecting optical system 4 and a light-receiving optical system 9 are in a specified combination in which their partitioned directions are a longitudinal direction X and a cross direction Y orthogonal to each other. Light-projecting elements 3 are arranged along the partitioned direction of the light-receiving optical system 9 by the same number as the number of partitions of the light-receiving optical system 9 or by an integral multiple of this number of partitions, and light-receiving elements 8 are arranged along the partitioned direction of the light-projecting optical system 4 by the same number as the number of partitions of the light-projecting optical system 4 or by an integral multiple of this number of partitions.
