Class 117 [Also in Groups I, XXIV and XXX] The magnetic drum 10 of a combined magnetic drum filter and travelling band filter comprises a cylindrical non-magnetic shell 20 surrounding outwardly facing poles of magnets 21 spaced round the drum interior and supported by drum end plates 22. The drum is continuously rotated about a motor driven axial shaft 23 and dips into a trough 25 fed with liquid to be filtered at one edge 31 from a transversely apertured duct 28. Swarf 34 is carried by the drum exterior under a drying roller 35 and is discharged to a shoot 37, whereas the so cleaned liquid flows -over the other edge 32 of the trough 25 on to a sheet of filter paper 11 supported by a periodically advanced endless belt 48 (not shown), the sheet 11 forming with imperforate side walls a receptacle for a pool 41 of liquid undergoing filtration.
