PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phase difference plate of high transmissivity that is easily produced, has an extremely small thickness, and operates due to vertical incidence of electromagnetic wave.SOLUTION: In a phase difference plate of the present invention, a plurality of openings are periodically arranged in a metal film, and each opening has an asymmetric shape having a long side part forming a certain inclination angle with respect to an incident-electromagnetic-wave linear polarization surface. In the phase difference plate, two types of orthogonal surface plasmon modes or pseudo surface plasmon modes based on periodic bonding are excited in the openings, and linear polarization is converted into circular polarization using orthogonal field components having 90-degree different phases.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
