PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording apparatus and an image recording method in which complementary processing is appropriately implemented by properly determining a state of a recording element.SOLUTION: Provided is an image recording method for an image recording apparatus which includes an inspection section for periodically inspecting presence/absence of abnormality in recording elements provided in a print head. In the image recording method, a recording element determined to be abnormal in an inspection by the inspection section within a preset determination period, is classified as unusable. When determined that abnormality is absent in the recording element classified as unusable, in an inspection directly after being classified as unusable, this recording element is restored as usable. On the other hand, when determined again that the recording element classified as unusable is abnormal in inspections within a regulated number of times N from the inspection directly after being classified as unusable, this recording element is classified as continuously unusable within the determination period. When the recording element is classified as unusable, the recording element classified as unusable is disused, and image defects due to the disused recording element are complemented before recording an image.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 20 |
