Disclosed are a system and a method for protecting a passenger in a vehicle. The system comprises: a position sensing unit receiving a rotation position of a seat; a collision sensing unit receiving a collision signal or a collision prediction signal of a vehicle; and a control unit determining the direction in which a collision has occurred when the collision signal of the vehicle is inputted, and controlling an airbag provided around a passenger to be selectively deployed in accordance with the direction in which the collision has occurred and the rotation position of the seat. The present invention optimizes the operation of a system for protecting a passenger in accordance with a seating position when a collision occurs or a collision is predicted by determining the seating position of the passenger. |
