PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool capable of rising easily and safely to an upper portion in the case of performing a maintenance inspection, a component replacement and a repair.SOLUTION: A machine tool 1 comprises: an elevatable spindle head 4 having a tool attached thereto for working a workpiece; a column 5 for supporting the spindle head 4 movably; and a base 2 for supporting the column. The side face of the column 5 is formed, in the central portion of the height direction of the machine tool 1, with a hole 51, on which a foot is to be placed, and with a hole 52 in the upper side of the hole 51.
