PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle body structure of an automobile that can improve appearance of the automobile and enhance rigidity around a rear expanded space by eliminating a joint between outer panels.SOLUTION: When a rear expanded space R is added to a vehicle interior, a side panel expansion part 5b corresponding to the rear expanded space R is formed in a side panel 5, and in the side panel extension part 5b is formed a window opening part 5c; a reinforcing plate 16 extending from a door opening part 5a to the window opening part 5c is interposed between an outer panel 11 and an inner panel 12; a midway part 16c of the reinforcing plate 16 is joined to a midway part 12d of the inner panel 12; and a door opening-side closed cross section A and a window opening-side closed cross section B are formed of the inner panel 12 and the reinforcing plate 16.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
