779,090. Load-handling machines. GILSON, P. C. J. Oct. 14, 1954, No. 29584/54. Class 78 (3). [Also in Group XXI] A load-handling device comprises a jib D which is provided at its free end with a loadengaging device and a control cabin 56, and is mounted on a support for vertical, longitudinal, transverse and slewing movements. As shown, the load-engaging device comprises a fork 67 mounted on an adjustable four-bar linkage 63, 63a and actuated by an hydraulic ram 74, but in various modifications, Figs. 12-15 (not shown), the fork is replaced by a hook, a grab, a, pair of gripping arms or a pivoted or grab bucket. The jib is mounted on a support B for slewing movement about an axis X-X by a motor-driven screw and nut mechanism (not shown), and for axial movement by an endless chain 77 secured to base B and passing over a motor-driven sprocket 79 and an idler sprocket 78 joi-mialled on the jib. The support B is vertically movable relative to a wheeled base A by four screws (not shown) interconnected by chain and sprocket gearing and driven by a single motor 13, whilst transverse movement of carriage A along rails 1 is effected by a motordriven winch 17 engaging a cable 16. The various motors are connected to the driven members through fluid couplings and reduction gearing, and are provided with brakes. |
