SHADOW SUPPRESSION IN ULTRASOUND IMAGING

Provided is a shadow suppression (52) in a so-called steered spatial compounding (60) in ultrasound imaging. Data of a data frame is projected (54) along a steering direction by conversion or another approach. The projection is used for determination (56) of weighted values. The frame is weighted (58) by the projection-based weighted values, and shadows are reduced (52) or improved based on a single frame rather than registration with respect to other frames. In the example of the steered spatial compounding (60), independently shadow-suppressed component frames and a compounded frame can have few or no fork-shaped image artifacts attributable to shadowing.
