The present invention relates to a light emitting device and a light emitting device package. The light emitting device according to the present invention comprises: a support substrate; a first conductive semiconductor layer formed on the support substrate; an active layer formed on the first conductive semiconductor layer; a second conductive semiconductor layer formed on the active layer; and a light diffusion layer which has a grid pattern formed on the second conductive semiconductor layer. In the present invention, a material having comparatively high difference in refractive index is formed as a grid structure at the uppermost layer of the light emitting device, thereby improving the angle of beam spread.
