PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve timing control device for an internal combustion engine that enables visual recognition of a mounting state of a seal member from outside so as to enable appropriate response to the state after the mounting.SOLUTION: A valve timing control device for an internal combustion engine includes: a chain case 6 mounted to a cylinder head 01 or the like and having an insertion hole 55 to which a housing body 5a of an electric motor 8 can be inserted; a cover member 4 mounted to the chain case so as to close an opening on one end side of a large diameter hole portion 55a of the insertion hole; and an oil seal 58 having a base portion 58a fixed to the inner peripheral surface of the large diameter hole portion in a press-fitting manner and a seal potion 58b and a seal lip 58c that are abutted on the outer peripheral surface of the housing body so as to come into sliding contact with it. Before the cover member is mounted to the chain case, the mounting state of the oil seal can be visually recognized from the outer side of the large diameter hole portion.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
