[Problem] To provide, as a vanadate glass material which can be used for sealing glass substrates in a flat display by laser heating, a vanadate glass material which has excellent low-temperature workability and laser sealing properties and enables the formation of a sealing glass layer having an extremely small thermal expansion coefficient and extremely superior water resistance, and of which the material cost can be greatly reduced. [Solution] A vanadate glass material for use in sealing by local heating, said vanadate glass material having a glass composition that contains, in mol%, 30.0 to 60.0% of V2O5, 20.1 to 30.0% of ZnO, 10.0 to 25.0% of TeO2, 1.0 to 5.0% of Al2O3, 0.5 to 5.0% of Nb2O3, 0 to 10.0% of BaO, 0 to 5.0% of Fe2O3, 0 to 5.0% of MnO, 0 to 5.0% of CuO, 0 to 5.0% of SiO2 and 0 to 8.0% of CaO and does not substantially contain Pb or P. |
