In a multi-stage centrifugal compressor, at least in a part of the series of stages, the leading impellers are made of a material of less heat resistance than that of the succeeding impellers. The leading impellers may be cast from a silicon-aluminium or copper-aluminium alloy, while the succeeding impellers may be of a grey cast iron containing nickel. Alternatively, the leading impellers may be of an alloy containing mainly aluminium, such as a silicon-aluminium alloy, while the succeeding impellers are of cast steel or fabricated from riveted or welded steel plate. |
