[Also in Group XVII] An electric cell is provided with a fluid-tight container consisting of two metal shells 1, 2 fitting one within the other, the wall of the inner shell extending nearly to the base of the outer shell. The inner shell wall 1a is provided with a U-shaped insulating packing member 6 which covers the top edge and both faces of the wall of the inner shell. The shells are connected together by bending inwardly the lower end of the outer shell as shown in Fig. 2b. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which the outer shell is formed with a groove 9 so that when the two shells are pressed together the packing member is forced inwardly as shown at 10. The member 6 is formed with a flange 11 engaging in a recess in the active material 3 and resting on or secured to an insulating member 5 which separates the positive and negative active materials 3, 4. |
