In the present invention, performance information for a musical performance performed by a user is received, and the performance information is temporarily stored in a buffer for each given time period. The portion of performance information for the given time period temporarily stored is recorded in a recording unit in accordance with a recording instruction from the user. Second performance information having a definite time period is reproduced repeatedly, and the user adlibs a desired musical performance while listening to the repeatedly reproduced sound. The given time period is set so as to coincide with the definite time period for the second performance information. The performance information for the given time period, which is temporarily stored, is recorded in one track out of a plurality of recording tracks in the recording unit in accordance with a single recording instruction. Thus, a plurality of segments for the performance information in the given time period which are different from each other are recorded respectively in a plurality of recording tracks in accordance with a plurality of recording instructions. These segments of performance information that differ from each other are synchronized and reproduced repeatedly. |
