The present invention relates to a magnetic recording medium which comprises a nonmagnetic substrate and a magnetic recording layer. In this magnetic recording medium, the magnetic recording layer includes an ordered alloy having an L10 ordered structure, comprises Fe, Pt, and V, and has a composition satisfying Pt>Fe.
