PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a burden of a driver during hill-climbing and during hill-descending.SOLUTION: The speed control device comprises: an electric power generator (an electric motor 13) that functions as a motor by power from a power storage portion to assist an internal combustion engine during acceleration of a vehicle or during hill-climbing, and functions as a power generator during deceleration of the vehicle or during hill-descending to charge the power storage portion with regenerative power; acquiring means (a road information acquiring portion 11) that acquires information showing a situation of a road on which the vehicle is travelling; detecting means (a sensor portion 12) that detects operation amounts of an accelerator pedal of the vehicle; and control means (a speed control device 10) that performs control so that speed of the vehicle is made constant by controlling an assist amount or a charge amount by the electric power generator in response to the slope of the road, when it is determined that the vehicle is climbing the hill or descending the hill on the basis of the information showing the situation of the road on which the vehicle is travelling detected by the acquiring means and the operation amounts of the acceleration pedal detected by the detecting means are constant.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
