A nutritive preparation for administration orally or parentally is made by sterilizing a preparation of amino acids or salts or esters of amino acids and the non-reducing carbohydrates hexites or pentites, e.g. inositol, sorbitol, dulcitol and mannitol, in aqueous medium. Vitamins and oligo elements such as cobalt and manganese may be incorporated. Sulphur dioxide, carbon dioxide, or a substance which generates sulphur dioxide or carbon dioxide may be added. According to examples, formulations in pyrogen-free water of (i) methionine, sodium methioninate, tryptophan, glycine, and sorbitol, of pH 7.15; (ii) methionine, tryptophan, glycine, potassium bicarbonate, inositol, sorbitol and ascorbic acid, of pH 6.5; (iii) acetyl methionine, tryptophen, glycine, sorbitol, cobalt chloride, manganese chloride, ascorbic acid, sodium bicarbonate and potassium bicarbonate, of pH 6.1; and (iv) dl-tryptophan, dl-threonine, dl-isoleucine, dl-lysine, dl-valine, dl-leucine, dl-methionine, dl-phenylalanine, or l( - )-tryptophan, d( - )-threonine, l(+)-isoleucine, l(+)-lysine, l(+)-valine, l( - )-leucine, l( - )-methionine, l( - )-phenylalanine, with glycine, potassium bicarbonate, sodium bicarbonate, cobalt chloride, manganese chloride, inositol, sorbitol, ascorbic acid and sodium hydrosulphite, of pH 6.8-7.2, are filtered and then sterilized by heating for 20-30 minutes at 120-115 DEG C. |
