PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily avoid the occurrence of display mute during switching of services.SOLUTION: A transmission device hierarchically encodes image data of pictures that constitute moving image data, to create a base stream having encoded image data of the pictures on a low hierarchy side and an enhanced stream having encoded image data of the pictures on a high hierarchy side. In a case where the hierarchical structure of the pictures in the base stream changes, the transmission device determines the hierarchy of the pictures included in the enhanced stream as a fixed hierarchy larger than the maximum hierarchy that can be taken by the pictures in the base stream, transmits a multiplexed stream including the respective streams, and inserts information on a hierarchical range of the pictures in the base stream into the multiplexed stream.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 21 |
