Provided is a method for producing a honeycomb filter, said method suppressing the scattering of organic decomposition products, carbon, silica and the like in degreasing and sintering steps, making it possible to suppress the adhesion of organic decomposition products, carbon, silica and the like to a furnace wall, and making it possible to produce a honeycomb filter efficiently in stable conditions. This method for producing a honeycomb filter comprises: a molded article starting material preparation step in which a molded article starting material is prepared by mixing silicon carbide powder, an organic additive including at least an organic binder, and a starting material composition including a pore forming agent comprising silica; a molded article production step in which a honeycomb molded article is produced by extrusion molding the prepared molded article starting material; a degreasing step in which the produced honeycomb molded article is degreased; and a sintering step in which the degreased honeycomb molded article is sintered. Said method is characterized in that, at the time of completion of the degreasing step, the degreased honeycomb molded article includes silica, which includes a pore-forming agent comprising silica, and carbon, and in the sintering step, silicon carbide is synthesized by reacting the silica and carbon. |
