The present invention discloses a mobile terminal and a method for controlling the same allowing improvement in auto focus execution speed and accuracy. The mobile terminal includes: a camera having a lens and an image sensor; a light emitting unit for reflecting light; a light receiving unit for receiving the reflected light when the light emitted by the light emitting unit is reflected; two or more auto focus (AF) sensors receiving at least some of the light passing through the lens; a display unit for displaying a preview image input through the camera before imaging; and a control unit determining, once any position on the preview image is touched, a focal position focused on a subject indicated by the touched positions based on the length of time until the reception of the reflected light by the light receiving unit, and then performing a primary correction on the focal position based on a phase difference between the AF sensors. |
