The application relates to a method for producing a catheter (1) with a proximal portion, a distal portion, and an expandable element (2) arranged in the distal portion, wherein the expandable element (2) can be brought from a contracted state into an expanded state by the delivery of a fluid, and a removable protective device in the form of a tube (5) is arranged around the expandable element (2) in the contracted state, and wherein the tube (5) is turned back over the expandable element (2) and is guided with the catheter (1) through one or more nozzles (6), wherein the tube (5) is stretched and the internal diameter of the tube (5) decreases. The application further relates to a corresponding catheter (1) with a tube (5) pulled over the expandable element (2). The application permits the provision of a catheter (1) which is characterized by a particularly small cross section in the area of the distal portion. |
