PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods, reagents and kits for classifying a patient having a cancer that is resistant to a Bcl-2 family inhibitor.SOLUTION: A method comprises: preparing a tissue sample from a patient having a cancer; determining if a Bcl-xgene in the sample is amplified by a polymerase chain reaction; and, if it is determined that the Bcl-xgene is amplified, classifying the patient as having a cancer resistant to a Bcl-2 family inhibitor, which is a central regulator of programmed cell death.SELECTED DRAWING: None
