PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silicone resin which can be effectively used in applications for sealing a semiconductor element, for example, a light-emitting element of a light emitting diode.SOLUTION: There is provided a silicone resin which is represented by the average composition formula of the following chemical formula 1 and contains siloxane units of the following chemical formula 2 and following chemical formula 3: [Chemical formula 1] (RSiO)(RSiO)(RSiO)(SiO), [Chemical formula 2] RRSiO, [Chemical formula 3] RSiO.
