PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fibrosis susceptibility locus, i.e., the CTGF locus, usable for detecting predisposition to, diagnosis and prognosis of fibrosis, as well as for screening of therapeutically effective drugs.SOLUTION: Provided is a method comprising detecting the presence of an alteration in the CTGF locus in a sample taken from a subject, where the presence of the alteration indicates the presence of or predisposition to fibrosis. Also provided is a method for screening therapeutic compounds for subjects having fibrosis or being predisposed to develop fibrosis, comprising the steps of: contacting a CTGF polypeptide or gene or a fragment thereof and a test compound; determining the ability of the test compound to enhance or reduce the biological activity or function of a pathway related to the CTGF locus.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
