The invention relates to a method for controlling a device including: a hydraulic transmission (20) having n hydraulic engines (26A, 28B), n being no lower than 1; and a pump (24) drivable by a drive element for supplying fluid to the hydraulic engines. According to the method, the pump (24) is adjusted such as to generate an outward flow rate, such that the theoretical output speed of the hydraulic engines (26A, 26B) supplied with fluid at said outward flow rate is a target speed; a parameter indicating the actual operational state of the hydraulic engines is detected; and the displacement of the pump (24) is changed on the basis of said indicating parameter.
