PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide Lentinus edodes (Berk.) Singer with a high lentinan content in a fruit body.SOLUTION: The invention provides Lentinus edodes (Berk.) Singer having a variant exo-β-1,3-glucanase (EXG2), and in which a lentinan content in a fruit body is increased compared with conventional varieties. The invention also provides a method for producing lentinan comprising culturing Lentinus edodes (Berk.) Singer to form a fruit body and to harvest the fruit body. The method for detecting the Lentinus edodes (Berk.) Singer in which the lentinan content in the fruit body is increased compared with the conventional varieties comprises detecting the presence or absence of a substituted mutation in the amino acid residue at position 710 in the amino acid sequence of EXG2; and when the substituted mutation is present in the amino acid residue at position 710, recognizing the Lentinus edodes (Berk.) Singer in which the lentinan content in the fruit body is increased compared with the conventional varieties. In the Lentinus edodes (Berk.)
