The present invention relates to a device and a method for blocking backflow of exhaust gas of a composite boiler or a water heater. The device for blocking backflow of exhaust gas of a composite boiler or a water heater includes: an exhaust thermistor for detecting the temperature of the exhaust gas; an exhauster for preventing the combusted exhaust gas from being discharged to the outside and preventing the combusted exhaust gas from flowing backward to a space in which each boiler or a water heater is installed; a combustion fan for blowing the combusted gas to the outside; a control unit for controlling the exhaust thermistor and the device for blocking the backflow; and a communication line for communications between the each boiler or the water heater. The control unit compares the temperature of the exhaust thermistor, waiting to combust in the boiler or the water heater, to an average exhaust gas temperature of the water heater or the boiler which is combusting or the temperature of the exhaust thermistor in a normal state of the boiler or the water heater which is waiting to combust. The control unit also determines the backflow of the exhaust gas according to a comparing result. The device and method for blocking the backflow of the exhaust gas of a composite boiler or a water heater can rapidly detect the backflow of the exhaust gas and can rapidly block the inflow of the exhaust gas to an indoor side, thereby preventing a user from being injured by harmful gas such as carbon monoxide contained in the exhaust gas.
