PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating an air jet spinning machine comprising a spinning unit having a spinning nozzle for producing a yarn.SOLUTION: A fiber composite material 3 is supplied to a spinning nozzle 1 through an introduction passage 4 in a predetermined conveyance direction. The fiber composite material 3 in a swirl chamber 5 of the spinning nozzle 1 is twisted by a vortical flow of air. A yarn 2 is formed from the fiber composite material, taken out from the spinning nozzle 1 through a lead-out passage 6, and wound on a sleeve by a spool device 7. After interruption of yarn production, an end 23 of the yarn on the side of the spool is moved to a direction opposite to the conveyance direction T, passed through the spinning nozzle 1, and then overlapped with an end 24 of the fiber composite material 3, and enters inside the spinning nozzle 1 through the introduction passage 4 together with the end 24 to be joined. After joining, a normal operation is restarted and production of the yarn 2 is continued. In the process of joining, at least temporarily, an additive 8 is supplied to the end 24 of the fiber composite material 3.
