The internal combustion engine (1) of the invention is characterized in that means (47) are provided for measuring a difference (Δp) between the pressure (p1) in the crankcase (10) or in the ventilation pipe (40) upstream of the crankcase pressure control valve (45) and the pressure (p2) in the ventilation pipe (40) downstream of the crankcase pressure control valve (45), and in that an evaluation unit (5) is provided which allows the measured difference in pressure (Δp) to be assessed as to whether the crankcase ventilation device (4) operates properly or not and allows corresponding information to be output. The invention further relates to a method for monitoring a crankcase ventilation device (4) of an internal combustion engine (1).
