PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction stir welding apparatus capable of compensating a lack of frictional heat efficiently.SOLUTION: A friction stir welding apparatus comprises a tool and a permanent magnet or an electromagnet. The tool comprises a shank, a shoulder, a probe, and at least one or more heaters. The shank comprises an attachment part which attaches the tool to the friction stir welding apparatus, an intermediate part, and a tip part. The probe is provided at the end part of the shoulder and stirs an inside of an object member to be welded. The heater is provided inside the shank. The intermediate part comprises an iron core part having a plurality of projections, and at least one or more coils, which is formed of a conductor and is wound around the projection. Both ends of the coil are connected to terminals of the heater. The magnetic permeability of the iron core part of the intermediate part is higher than the magnetic permeability of the tip part and the attachment part of the shank.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
