A method and technical equipment for decoding an intra block copy motion vector with two components. According to an embodiment, the decoding comprises determining a predicted value for the first block vector component; decoding a difference value for the first block vector component; generating value for the first block vector component by adding said predicted value to said difference value; determining a set of preferred values for the second block vector component; decoding an indicator specifying which value out of said determined set of preferred values is to be assigned for the second block vector component; and assigning the selected value for the second motion vector component.
