A fluid injection system for a fluid catalytic cracking unit having a cracking standpipe into which feed oil, residual oil, steam and a catalyst are directed at elevated pressure and temperature to crack the oil into constituent portions, the fluid injection system comprising: a manifold positioned around the outer periphery of the cracking standpipe, the manifold having inlets and outlets each connected to and continuous with inner passages, wherein each of the inner passages begins with an inlet on an outer peripheral surface of the manifold and terminates with an outlet on an inner peripheral surface of the manifold; a plurality of multiflow control blocks each coupled to the plural inlets for directing feed oil, steam, and residual oil through the inner passages in a controlled manner or for diverting feed oil, steam, or residual oil from the inner passages, the multiflow control blocks disposed radially about the outer peripheral surface of the manifold; a plurality of mixing chambers disposed radially about the manifold, wherein each of the mixing chambers is coupled to a respective outlet and inner passage combination to the control blocks for feed oil, steam, and residual oil, and adapted to atomize the feed oil and residual oil and mix the atomized feed and residual oil with the steam; and a plurality of nozzles each coupled to a respective mixing chamber and extending through a respective aperture in the standpipe for directing the feed and residual oil and steam mixture into the standpipe in a controlled manner, wherein the nozzles are arranged in a spaced manner about the circumference of the standpipe.
