[Class 131] In a dry shaver wherein laterally projecting teeth 40 on a reciprocating cutter cooperate with the teeth 20 of a slotted shear plate 12, a slotted guard 28 secured at each side of the shear plate has teeth 48 contacting with the tips of the teeth 20. The outer faces of the shear plate and guards may lie in a plane. Rivets 30 secure the stationary parts together, and the spacing- members 26 have inclined: faces 27 which facilitate the discharge of waste through apertures in the guard plates 28. Figs. 5 and 6 show the shear plate teeth 20 associated with different forms of guard teeth providing wide entrance slots 72, 72' converging into. narrow slots 71, 71' which force out the flesh admitted by the wider slots. The length of the restricted portion 71 is preferably between .010 and .020 inches, while the length of the wider portion is about double that length. Fig. 4 shows an arrangement of spring-pressed plungers 62 pressing the reciprocating cutter against the shear plate 12. To prevent entrance of shaving waste, ribs 52 on the spacer plate 12.
