PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ignition device capable of effectively suppressing electrode wear of an ignition plug while securing ignitability.SOLUTION: An ignition device has an ignition coil; an ignition plug; and voltage limiting means for limiting an absolute value of voltage applied between electrodes of the ignition plug by electric energy supplied from the ignition coil, so that it is not over a prescribed voltage limit value. The voltage limit value is different between a first stage S1 by termination of a discharge voltage portion generating on the ignition plug first by electric energy supplied to the ignition plug, and a second stage S2 thereafter. The voltage limit value Vh2 of the second stage S2 is lower than the voltage limit value Vh1 of the first stage S1. |
